“A New Spirit Will I Put within You”
This week on Come Follow Me for Teens, we're studying Ezekiel 1–3; 33–34; 36–37; and 47, with the theme “A New Spirit Will I Put within You.”
Throughout the book of Ezekiel, the Lord repeats a remarkable message in various forms approximately 77 times in just 48 chapters!
“And ye shall know that I am the Lord.”
Think about that for a moment. Seventy-seven times! When the Lord repeats something so frequently, we ought to pay attention.
Why is it so important to God that we come to know Him? And how does He help us develop a personal relationship with Him?
Jesus Christ taught that eternal life is to know our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ whom He sent (John 17:3).
This week, we'll explore three remarkable gifts God has given us to help us come to know Him.
First, in Ezekiel 33, the Lord declares:
“I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel” (Ezekiel 33:7).
In ancient times, watchmen stood upon towers or city walls, watching for approaching danger. Their elevated position allowed them to see things others couldn't yet see.
We'll explore why Heavenly Father calls living prophets and seers to serve as watchmen today, helping us recognize dangers, navigate challenges, and make decisions that lead us closer to Jesus Christ.
And in Ezekiel 34, we'll discover the love behind those warnings as the Lord describes Himself as a Shepherd who searches for His scattered sheep, binds up the broken, and strengthens the weak.
God gives us prophets because He sees what we cannot yet see, and He loves us enough to help us find our way home.
Then we'll turn to Ezekiel 37 and the remarkable prophecy of the two sticks.
The Lord instructs Ezekiel to take one stick representing Judah and another representing Joseph, promising:
“And they shall be one in mine hand” (Ezekiel 37:19).
We'll explore how the Bible and Book of Mormon work together as two powerful witnesses of Jesus Christ, helping us understand His character, recognize His voice, and come to know Him personally.
We'll also discover why Alma taught that the word of God has a more powerful effect on people's minds than the sword or anything else (Alma 31:5).
How can God's word change our hearts, strengthen our faith, guide our decisions, and even heal our wounded souls?
The scriptures are more than records of people who knew God thousands of years ago. They're invitations for us to come to know Him ourselves.
Finally, we'll explore one of the most beautiful visions of the temple found anywhere in scripture.
In Ezekiel 47, the prophet sees water flowing out from the house of the Lord. As the water travels, it grows deeper, bringing healing and life wherever it goes.
“Every thing shall live whither the river cometh” (Ezekiel 47:9).
What a beautiful picture of the blessings that can flow from the house of the Lord!
We'll explore why Heavenly Father has provided temples where His children can come closer to Him, make covenants, experience His presence, and receive the healing and strengthening power of Jesus Christ.
And we'll consider something remarkable about Ezekiel's vision: the healing waters didn't remain inside the temple. They flowed outward, bringing life wherever they went.
We go into the temple walls, but the walls of the temple go out with us.
Finally, we'll bring these three principles together through the Lord's beautiful promise:
“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you” (Ezekiel 36:26).
God has given us living prophets, the Bible and Book of Mormon, and His holy temple because He wants us to know Him.
And as we come to know Him, the influence of Jesus Christ can change our hearts, deepen our faith, strengthen our desires to do good, and help us become more like Him.
So perhaps the question we ought to carry throughout our study this week is:
How well do I really know my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ—and how am I using the gifts They've given me to come to know Them better?
“And ye shall know that I am the Lord.”
Perhaps there's a reason He wanted us to hear that message 77 times.

You”
This week’s Come Follow Me for Teens Study & Teaching Guide gives parents and teachers a ready-to-use way to help youth explore Ezekiel 1–3; 33–34; 36–37; and 47 and the theme “A New Spirit Will I Put within You”—without having to build the lesson from scratch.
Throughout the book of Ezekiel, the Lord repeats a remarkable message in various forms approximately 77 times:
“And ye shall know that I am the Lord.”
Why would God repeat this message so frequently? Because He wants His children to know Him!
Through three connected teaching paths, youth will discover how Heavenly Father helps us recognize His voice, come to know Jesus Christ, and experience His healing and transforming power through living prophets, the scriptures, and His holy temple.
In “I Have Set Thee a Watchman,” youth will explore why the Lord calls living prophets and seers to guide and warn His people (Ezekiel 33:7). They'll discover how prophets can help us recognize dangers we might otherwise miss and make decisions that bring us closer to Jesus Christ. Through Ezekiel's beautiful description of the Good Shepherd, they'll also discover the love behind God's warnings and His desire to seek, strengthen, and gather His children.
In “And They Shall Be One in Mine Hand,” youth will explore Ezekiel's remarkable prophecy of the two sticks (Ezekiel 37:15–19) and discover how the Bible and Book of Mormon work together as powerful witnesses of Jesus Christ. They'll also explore why the word of God has extraordinary power to influence our decisions, change our desires, strengthen our faith, and heal wounded souls.
In “Every Thing Shall Live Whither the River Cometh,” youth will explore one of the most beautiful temple visions in scripture. In Ezekiel 47, water flows from the house of the Lord, growing deeper and bringing healing and life wherever it goes. They'll discover what this remarkable vision teaches about the healing, strengthening, and sanctifying power of Jesus Christ available through His holy temple. Through connections with the ancient tabernacle, temple covenants, and modern prophetic promises, they'll consider why Heavenly Father has provided sacred places where His children can come closer to Him and receive strength for their journey home.

At the center of the entire guide is one remarkable truth:
God wants you to know Him.
He gives us living prophets to guide us, the Bible and Book of Mormon to reveal His Son, and temples where we can experience His presence and power.
And as we come to know Him, something beautiful begins to happen within us.
In Ezekiel 36:26, the Lord promises:
“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you.”
The more we come to know our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, the more They can change our hearts, our desires, and ultimately who we become.
God wants us to know Him—and through Jesus Christ, we can become more like Him.
