Bring It into the Light

Hidden things lose power when we let Jesus Christ help us remove them.

After Jericho fell, the children of Israel had seen an incredible miracle. They had followed the Lord’s command, marched around the city, and watched the walls come down.

But soon after that victory, they were defeated by a much smaller city called Ai.

Joshua was confused. Why would Israel lose after the Lord had just helped them win such a powerful victory?

The Lord revealed the problem:

“There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.”

A man named Achan had taken things he had been commanded not to take. Then he hid them among his own belongings.

That pattern is still familiar today.

We see something.
We want it.
We take it into our lives.
Then we hide it.

The “accursed thing” may look different now. It might be pornography, dishonesty, secret habits, destructive media, pride, gossip, comparison, bitterness, or anything that pulls us away from the Spirit.

But the warning is the same: hidden sin weakens us.

That does not mean God stops loving us. It means He loves us enough to invite us out of hiding.

Jesus Christ does not expose our weaknesses to shame us. He brings things into the light so He can heal us, cleanse us, and help us become strong again.

President Thomas S. Monson taught:

“Let our hearts be pure. Let our lives be clean. Let our voices be heard. Let our actions be felt.”

If something is weakening your connection with God, you do not have to fight it alone. Talk to a parent. Talk to a bishop. Pray honestly. Ask for help. Let the Savior bring light into the places you have been trying to hide.

Repentance is not the end of your story. It is how Jesus Christ helps you start winning again.

Reflection

Is there anything in your life that you have been trying to hide, justify, or ignore?

What would it look like to take one honest step toward the light?

Today’s Challenge

Think of one habit, influence, app, media choice, attitude, or secret struggle that may be weakening your connection with God. Take one step this week to remove it, limit it, confess it, or ask for help.

Closing Thought

You do not have to stay hidden to be loved. Jesus Christ already sees you clearly, loves you completely, and has the power to help you change.
