I'm Doing a Great Work
Don't come down from what God is helping you build.
Have you ever noticed that the moment you decide to do something good, it suddenly becomes harder?
You decide to pray more consistently—and somehow you keep forgetting.
You commit to reading your scriptures—and your phone suddenly becomes a lot more interesting.
You decide to be kinder, stay morally clean, prepare for a mission, or spend more time with God—and almost immediately, something tries to pull you in the opposite direction.
That's not a coincidence.
Throughout the scriptures, opposition often follows spiritual progress.
Don't Come Down
After the temple had been rebuilt, Nehemiah led the effort to rebuild the walls around Jerusalem. The work was important because those walls would protect everything the people had restored.
Not surprisingly, the opposition came quickly.
Some people mocked Nehemiah.
Others threatened him.
When those tactics didn't work, his enemies tried something more subtle—they invited him to leave the work and meet with them.
It didn't sound like a terrible request.
It was simply an invitation to come down.
But Nehemiah recognized what was really happening. If he left the work God had given him, even temporarily, the rebuilding would stop.
So he sent back one of the greatest responses in scripture:
"I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down."
(Nehemiah 6:3)
That sentence wasn't just true for Nehemiah.
It's true for you.
If you're trying to strengthen your testimony...
You're doing a great work.
If you're preparing to receive temple blessings or serve a mission...
You're doing a great work.
If you're choosing honesty when others cheat...
You're doing a great work.
If you're trying to overcome an addiction, forgive someone, rebuild your faith, or become more like Jesus Christ...
You're doing a great work.
The adversary usually doesn't begin by asking us to abandon our faith completely.
Instead, he whispers:
"Skip scripture study today."
"One bad choice won't matter.“
"Lower your standards just this once."
"You don't need to pray tonight."
Little compromises have a way of becoming bigger ones.
That's why Nehemiah's words are so powerful.
Every time you're tempted to lower your standards, compromise your values, or step away from what God is helping you build, remember his answer:
"I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down."
Sometimes the holiest thing you can do is simply stay where God has asked you to stand.

What "great work" is God helping you build right now—and what distractions or temptations most often try to pull you away from it?
Today's Challenge
Choose one area where you've been tempted to "come down."
It might be your standards, your prayers, your scripture study, your language, your friendships, or your commitment to Christ.
Write Nehemiah 6:3 somewhere you'll see it today—on your phone lock screen, a sticky note, or in your journal.
The next time you're tempted to compromise, repeat those words to yourself:
"I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down."
Christ-Centered Thought
Jesus Christ never came down from His Father's work.
He remained faithful through temptation, rejection, mockery, suffering, and even the Cross because He knew His mission mattered.
Because He finished His great work, He can strengthen you to finish yours.
As you stay close to Him, He will help you protect what is holy, resist the distractions of the world, and become the person He knows you can become.
