You Are Enough… But You’re Not Done
The healthiest version of you lives between acceptance and change.
The Moment That Made Me Feel Old
I was in a hotel room with my daughters when something small—but powerful—happened.
My oldest, around 10 at the time, pointed at the nightstand and asked:
“Dad… what is that?”
I looked over.
Nothing unusual.
“Right there,” she said again.
Then it hit me.
“The telephone.”
She looked at me, confused.
“That’s a telephone?!”
And just like that, I realized something:
The world had changed… a lot.
The Tension We All Live In
Change is everywhere.
technology changes
relationships change
circumstances change
And yet…
There’s another kind of tension we all feel:
Do I accept who I am…
or do I try to change?
Because both matter.
And both can go wrong.
When Acceptance Goes Too Far
We hear a lot today:
“This is just who I am.”
And while there’s truth in accepting yourself…
That mindset can quietly become a trap.
As shared in the transcript, the belief that “this is just who I am” can completely shut down growth and change.
Because if nothing can change…
Nothing will.
When Change Goes Too Far
But the opposite isn’t healthy either.
If you’re constantly focused on:
what you’re not
what you lack
what you wish you were
You never actually accept yourself.
And without acceptance…
Real change can’t begin.
The Balance That Changes Everything
Here’s the truth:
You need both.
Acceptance → gives you a starting point
Change → gives you direction
You don’t choose one or the other.
You live in the tension between them.
As described in the transcript:
“The goal is to accept yourself as you are, but not accept that you can’t improve.”
The Identity That Unlocks Growth
Real change doesn’t start with pressure.
It starts with honesty.
“This is me.”
Not perfect.
Not finished.
But real.
Because you can’t change who you’re pretending to be.
You can only change who you’re willing to see.
The Pattern We Can Follow
Look at how Jesus Christ worked with people.
He didn’t say:
“Fix yourself, then come to me.”
He said:
“Come as you are.”
But He never left people where they were.
He accepted them fully…
And then helped them become more.
Anchoring Quote
“God doesn’t care nearly as much about where you have been as He does about where you are and, with His help, where you are willing to go.” — Jeffrey R. Holland
Practical Reflection
Take a moment and ask yourself:
Where am I out of balance?
Am I too hard on myself?
Or too comfortable staying the same?
Now ask:
What would it look like to both accept who I am…
and believe I can become more?
Today’s Daily Challenge
Do two things today:
Accept yourself
Acknowledge something good about who you areChallenge yourself
Take one small step to improve something
Both matter.
Both are necessary.
Closing
You are enough.
Right now.
As you are.
But you are also…
Not finished.
Not limited.
Not stuck.
You are becoming.
So don’t settle for less…
And don’t hate where you are.
Stand in both truths:
I accept who I am…
and I believe in who I can become.
Because that’s where real growth happens.
