God’s Covenants Are Meant for You
The promises God made to Abraham continue today and offer strength, guidance, and divine help in our lives.
When we hear about the covenants God made with Abraham, it can feel distant—like ancient promises made to someone else in a different time. But those covenants matter deeply for us today.
God’s covenant with Abraham teaches that God wants a covenant relationship with you too.
God promised Abraham that He would hear him, deliver him, lead him, and place His name upon him. These promises didn’t come because Abraham’s life was easy—they came when Abraham was in danger and needed God’s help the most.
“I lifted up my voice unto the Lord… and the Lord hearkened and heard.”
(Abraham 1:15)
Through covenants, God binds Himself to us. He promises strength, direction, and power beyond our own. In return, He asks us to trust Him, follow Him, and help others come to know Him.
Covenants are not restrictions—they are connections. They give us access to God’s power when life feels overwhelming or uncertain. Even when promised blessings seem impossible, God keeps His word in His own time and way, just as He did with Abraham and Sarah.
“Each person who makes covenants… has increased access to the power of Jesus Christ.”
—President Russell M. Nelson
Choosing to keep your covenants opens the door for God to work in your life in ways that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. You are not forgotten. You are trusted. You are part of God’s plan.
“Don’t let the world change you when you were born to change the world.”
—Elder Chad Wilcox
Reflection Question:
Which promise God made to Abraham gives you the most hope for your own life right now?
Small Application:
Think of one covenant you have made—or are preparing to make—and write how trusting God in that covenant can give you strength this week.
