Everything Points to Christ

The sacrifices, ordinances, covenants, and temple all lead us to Him.

Some parts of the Old Testament can feel confusing at first. Animal sacrifices. Altars. Priests. Rituals. Offerings. Laws about holiness.

But once you understand what they were pointing to, they become powerful.

They were pointing to Jesus Christ.

In Leviticus 1, the Lord taught Israel about sacrifice. The offering had to be without blemish, and it was accepted “to make atonement.”

That sacrifice pointed forward to the Savior, who would one day offer Himself for all of us.

Nephi explained the purpose of the law of Moses this way:

“We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ…”

The whole gospel is centered on Jesus Christ.

The sacrament points to Christ.
Baptism points to Christ.
Repentance points to Christ.
The temple points to Christ.
Covenants point to Christ.
The scriptures point to Christ.

Why?

Because He is the only one who can save us, cleanse us, heal us, and make us holy.

Elder Patrick Kearon taught:

“You don’t have to be who you’ve been before. Embrace your fresh start, your second or third or fourth—or hundredth—chance, offered to you through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ.”

That is the message of Leviticus. That is the message of the tabernacle. That is the message of the temple. And that is the message of your life.

Because of Jesus Christ, you can start again.

Reflection

Where do you need a fresh start through Jesus Christ?

Today’s Challenge

Write down one sentence that begins with: “Because of Jesus Christ, I can…”

Closing

Everything God gives us is meant to lead us to His Son. Keep looking to Christ. He is the way back. He is the one who makes us holy.
