Nothing Is Too Hard for the Lord
When God’s promises feel delayed or impossible, faith means trusting both His power and His timing.
Have you ever wanted something so badly—something good—and it just… didn’t happen? You pray. You try. You do what you’re supposed to do. But the answer feels delayed, and eventually you start wondering if it’s ever going to change.
Abraham and Sarah knew that feeling. God promised Abraham a future filled with posterity, but year after year they remained childless. Then, when they were old—Sarah around 90 and Abraham around 100—three holy men visited and made the promise again: Sarah would have a son. Sarah overheard it and laughed. Honestly, that reaction makes sense.
“Therefore Sarah laughed within herself… And the Lord said… Is any thing too hard for the Lord?”
(Genesis 18:12–14)
That question is still the heart of this story. Is anything too hard for the Lord? The answer is no. God can do miracles. He can change hearts, heal pain, open doors, and fulfill promises that seem impossible.
But there’s another part that’s harder: God’s timing. Abraham and Sarah didn’t just need faith that God could do it—they needed faith that God would do it when He knew it was best.
“We cannot have true faith in the Lord without also having complete trust in the Lord’s will and in the Lord’s timing.”
—President Dallin H. Oaks
Waiting is one of the greatest tests of discipleship. God doesn’t delay because He doesn’t care. Sometimes He delays because He’s building something in us while we wait—patience, humility, trust, deeper reliance on Him. In proving us, He also improves us.
“God’s promises are not always fulfilled as quickly as… we might hope; they come according to His timing… The promises of the Lord… are always certain.”
—President Dieter F. Uchtdorf
If you’re waiting on something right now—an answer, healing, peace, a change at home, direction for your future—this story is your reminder: God can do the impossible, and He keeps His promises.
Reflection Question:
What is one thing you feel like the Lord is asking you to wait for right now?
Small Application:
Write a short prayer today telling God what you’re waiting for—and then add one sentence of trust: “I believe You can do this, and I will trust Your timing.”
