Stand for Truth

Micaiah teaches us that truth is worth standing for, even when the crowd wants something easier.

Scripture:
“As the Lord liveth, even what my God saith, that will I speak.”
—2 Chronicles 18:13

Devotional Thought:
Micaiah was surrounded by voices telling him to go along with the crowd.

King Ahab wanted to go to battle, so he gathered 400 prophets who all told him what he wanted to hear. They said he should go and that he would win.

Four hundred voices said the same thing.

But Jehoshaphat asked if there was still a prophet of the Lord they could ask. Ahab admitted there was one more man: Micaiah. But Ahab did not like him because Micaiah did not just say what Ahab wanted to hear.

Before Micaiah spoke to the kings, a messenger pressured him:

Everyone else is saying the same thing. Let your words be like theirs.

That is peer pressure.

And it still happens today.

Everyone else is laughing, so laugh too.
Everyone else is watching it, so watch it too.
Everyone else is gossiping, so join in.
Everyone else thinks it is fine, so stop making it a big deal.
Everyone else is saying the Church is wrong, so be quiet.
Everyone else is doing it, so why not you?

But Micaiah answered:

“As the Lord liveth, even what my God saith, that will I speak.”

That is courage.

Micaiah was not trying to be rude. He was not trying to be difficult. He was not trying to prove he was better than everyone else. He simply cared more about God’s truth than the approval of the crowd.

That is the kind of courage disciples of Jesus Christ need today.

Truth is not decided by popularity.
Truth is not decided by likes, comments, trends, or followers.
Truth is not decided by how many people agree.

Four hundred voices can be wrong.

One voice with God can be right.

You may have moments when discipleship feels lonely. You may be the only one who leaves the conversation. The only one who does not laugh. The only one who keeps a standard. The only one who says no. The only one who stands up for someone. The only one who still believes.

But when you stand with Jesus Christ, you are never truly alone.

And remember, standing for truth does not mean being harsh. Jesus Christ showed perfect courage and perfect love. He never compromised truth, but He was full of mercy, compassion, and grace.

So stand for truth.

But stand like the Savior would.

Reflection:
Where do I need more courage to care about God’s voice more than the approval of the crowd?

Today’s Challenge:
Look for one moment today when you can stand for truth with courage and compassion. It might mean refusing to join gossip, choosing better media, defending someone, being honest, keeping a standard, or quietly choosing not to follow the crowd.
