Exodus 14-18: Stand Still Before You Panic
When fear rises, faith begins by remembering who God is.
Sometimes life can feel like it closes in all at once. You may be dealing with pressure at school, stress at home, confusion in a friendship, or anxiety about something ahead of you. In those moments, it is easy to feel trapped, overwhelmed, and unsure what to do next.
That is exactly how the children of Israel must have felt at the Red Sea. Pharaoh’s army was behind them, the sea was in front of them, and they could not see a way out. But Moses said, “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord” (Exodus 14:13). He also reminded them, “The Lord shall fight for you” (Exodus 14:14). That is such an important principle for us. Faith does not always begin when we see the answer. Sometimes it begins when we choose to trust God before the answer comes. Being still does not mean giving up. It means refusing to let fear take control. It means remembering that God is still present, still powerful, and still aware of you even when life feels impossible.
President Boyd K. Packer taught, “The Spirit does not get our attention by shouting or shaking us with a heavy hand. Rather it whispers.”
Reflection Question
What is one situation in your life right now where you need to stop panicking and trust God more?
Today’s Challenge
The next time you feel overwhelmed today, stop for one minute and pray before reacting.
Sometimes the miracle is not just that God changes the situation. Sometimes the miracle is that He calms your heart enough to move forward. Trust Him. He sees more than you do, and He can make a way even when you cannot see one yet.
