Turn Your Heart Toward the Temple
Solomon’s temple prayer teaches us about forgiveness, healing, direction, and covenant strength.
Scripture:
“And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place.” — 1 Kings 8:30
“That he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways.” — 1 Kings 8:58
Quote:
President Russell M. Nelson taught:
“Everything we believe and every promise God has made to His covenant people come together in the temple.”
Reflection:
When Solomon dedicated the temple, he prayed that the Lord would hear His people when they turned toward that holy house.
He prayed for forgiveness. He prayed that heaven would open when it felt shut. He prayed that God would teach His people the good way to walk. He prayed for healing, protection, restoration, compassion, and hearts inclined toward the Lord.
That teaches us something powerful: the temple is not just a beautiful building. It is the house of the Lord. It points us to Jesus Christ and the blessings He wants to give His covenant people.
For teens, the temple can become a place of peace in a noisy world. It can help you remember who you are. It can help you feel close to God. It can give you strength to keep going, courage to repent, and a deeper desire to follow Jesus Christ.
Even before receiving your own endowment, you can turn your heart toward the temple. You can prepare for a recommend. You can do baptisms for the dead. You can learn about covenants. You can live worthy of the Lord’s presence.
The temple reminds us that God wants to be close to His children — and He wants our hearts turned toward Him.
Today’s Challenge:
Do one thing today to turn your heart toward the temple: look up your nearest temple, schedule a time to attend, do family history, ask a question about temple covenants, or choose one way to live more worthy of the Lord’s presence.
