Finding Your Way Back to God When You Feel Lost
There are seasons when we know exactly where we're going.
And then there are seasons when we don't.
Faith feels distant.
Life becomes confusing.
Something changes.
We aren't sure what the next step should be.
When we feel spiritually lost, our instinct can sometimes be to withdraw.
But one of the great lessons of the gospel is that we were never meant to find our way home alone.

What This Resource Is About
The monarch butterfly makes an extraordinary migration.
Tiny butterflies travel enormous distances, following a route that eventually leads them back toward the same areas generation after generation.
And during parts of that journey, they gather together.
That image has always seemed like a beautiful metaphor for our own spiritual journey.
We are trying to find our way home too.
But God never designed discipleship as an entirely solitary experience.
We have families.
Friends.
Teachers.
Church communities.
People who have already traveled portions of the road we are just beginning.
And above all, we have Jesus Christ and the guidance of the Holy Ghost.
I saw another picture of that principle at a concert.
During the show, the lights suddenly went completely dark.
Then one person in the crowd turned on the light from a phone.
Then another.
Then another.
Before long, thousands of individual lights were shining toward the stage.
One tiny phone light wouldn't have illuminated much.
Together, they changed the entire room.
That's what people can do for one another spiritually.
Your faith may be stronger today when mine is weak.
Your experience may help me recognize something I cannot currently see.
Your testimony may remind me of something I used to know.
Your encouragement may provide just enough light for my next step.
And tomorrow, perhaps mine will do the same for you.
That doesn't mean another person can make our spiritual choices for us.
Each of us still has our own path to walk.
But we don't have to walk it disconnected from everyone else.
Christ continually invites people to come to Him—and then sends His disciples back out to help others do the same.
Sometimes finding our own way home includes helping illuminate the road for somebody beside us.
Key Takeaways
Feeling lost is not the same as being permanently lost. Direction can be rediscovered.
We need other people. Faith can be strengthened through family, friends, teachers, fellow believers, and people willing to walk with us.
The Holy Ghost can help us see beyond our immediate perspective. Spiritual direction does not always arrive as a complete map.
Your light matters. Your experience, testimony, kindness, and faith may provide something another person needs.
Keep moving toward Christ. Even when you cannot see the entire path, you can continue taking small steps toward Him.
There may be times when your light feels very small.
That's okay.
A small light still matters.
And when small lights gather together, darkness has a much harder time remaining dark.
