When God Gives You Enough for Today
Sometimes we don't want today's answer.
We want the whole plan.
We want to know where this is going, when the opportunity will come, how the problem will be solved, whether the prayer will be answered, and when life will finally look the way we hoped it would.
But God's pattern is often different.
Sometimes He gives us exactly what we need for today.
And then asks us to trust Him again tomorrow.

The children of Israel were traveling through the wilderness toward the promised land when they faced a very practical problem.
They needed food.
God provided manna.
But He gave them an unusual instruction:
Gather what you need for the day.
Not the month.
Not the year.
Not enough to eliminate every concern about tomorrow.
Enough for today.
Why?
Perhaps because God wasn't only trying to feed them.
He was teaching them to trust Him.
Every morning they had another opportunity to discover that He was still there.
That pattern appears throughout spiritual life.
We often want a big answer.
God gives us a small prompting.
We want the whole map.
He gives us the next step.
We want immediate certainty.
He gives us enough light to keep moving.
We want everything at once.
He teaches us line upon line.
That can be frustrating when the thing we're waiting for is good.
A better job.
A relationship.
Financial stability.
Healing.
A dream we're working toward.
Greater spiritual understanding.
An answer to prayer.
Sometimes we begin wondering:
Why isn't this happening faster?
But delay does not necessarily mean absence.
Sometimes growth itself requires time.
A wise parent doesn't give a child every freedom simply because the child wants it. Greater capacity brings greater opportunity.
Perhaps God works similarly with us.
Doctrine and Covenants 111:11 contains a remarkable promise:
He can order things for our good “as fast as ye are able to receive them.”
That changes the question.
Instead of constantly asking:
God, why haven't You given me what I want yet?
we might sometimes ask:
God, what are You trying to help me become ready for?
Or even more simply:
What is my assignment today?
