This principle helps youth discover why Jesus Christ is not simply one foundation among many. He is the only sure foundation and the only One who can redeem us.
President Boyd K. Packer’s parable of the mediator helps illustrate why we ultimately need Someone who is both willing and able to pay a debt we cannot pay ourselves.
In Psalm 51, David does more than ask God to remove the consequences of his mistakes. He pleads:
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
Youth explore repentance as more than simply feeling sorry or having a mistake erased. Through Jesus Christ, we can be forgiven, cleansed, healed, and changed.
This principle helps teens understand that their past does not have to determine who they become next.
Psalm 77 begins with honest questions from someone struggling to feel God’s presence.
Then the psalmist makes a deliberate choice:
“I will remember the works of the Lord.”
Youth will consider how remembering previous answers to prayer, spiritual experiences, and truths they already know about Jesus Christ can help them keep trusting when answers do not come immediately.
Sometimes faith means being able to say:
I may not understand what God is doing right now, but I remember enough about Him to keep trusting Him.
