“I Will Declare What He Hath Done for My Soul”
This week’s Come Follow Me for Teens episode continues our study of Psalms with Psalms 49–86 and three powerful truths about what Jesus Christ can do for us when the things around us cannot.
We begin in Psalm 49 by looking at the things we often rely on for security, happiness, and worth—money, friendships, accomplishments, popularity, possessions, work, and other people.
Many of those things can be good. But eventually, every mortal support reaches the limit of what it can do. Money runs out. Jobs end. Friendships change. New things become old. People we love eventually leave us.
Psalm 49 points us toward the One who does not.
We talk about why Jesus Christ is not simply one foundation among many, but the only sure foundation, and we connect this truth with President Boyd K. Packer’s parable of the mediator. When the debt finally comes due, we need Someone who is both willing and able to do what we cannot do for ourselves.
Then we turn to David’s deeply personal prayer in Psalm 51:
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
We explore repentance as more than simply wanting guilt or consequences to go away. Through Jesus Christ, we can be forgiven, cleansed, healed, and changed. Our past does not have to determine who we become next.
Finally, we study Psalm 77 and what to do when God feels distant, answers seem delayed, or faith feels harder than it once did.
The psalmist asks honest questions about whether God has forgotten him—and then makes a deliberate choice:
“I will remember the works of the Lord.”
We talk about the power of remembering previous answers to prayer, spiritual experiences, and truths we already know about Jesus Christ when our current circumstances make Him harder to see.
Sometimes faith is simply being able to say:
I may not understand what God is doing right now, but I remember enough about Him to keep trusting Him.
This episode is about finding a foundation that will not fail, discovering that Christ can create something new in us, and learning to remember what God has already done when we need faith to keep moving forward.

Christ Can Give You a Clean Heart
In Psalm 51, David does more than ask God to remove the consequences of his mistakes. He pleads:
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
Youth explore repentance as more than simply feeling sorry or having a mistake erased. Through Jesus Christ, we can be forgiven, cleansed, healed, and changed.
This principle helps teens understand that their past does not have to determine who they become next.
When God Feels Far Away, Remember
Psalm 77 begins with honest questions from someone struggling to feel God’s presence.
Then the psalmist makes a deliberate choice:
“I will remember the works of the Lord.”
