November Week 3 — Learn More About the Search for Truth | FSY Discussion Guide
Learn More About the Search for Truth
This For the Strength of Youth Discussion Guide helps Young Men and Young Women leaders prepare for November Week 3 and lead a meaningful, Christ-centered discussion in about 25 minutes.
This week’s lesson, Learn More About the Search for Truth, helps youth consider an increasingly important question: How can I know what is true when so many voices are competing for my trust?
Youth will study where truth comes from, what to do when they have sincere questions, and why Heavenly Father teaches us “line upon line.” Using Joseph Smith’s search for truth as a central example, the lesson helps youth see that questions do not have to weaken faith. When approached with humility, trustworthy sources, scripture study, prayer, and the Holy Ghost, questions can become part of learning truth for themselves.
The guide also addresses the growing challenge of discerning truth in a world filled with social media, conflicting information, persuasive voices, and increasingly realistic artificial intelligence. Prophetic teachings from President Russell M. Nelson and President Dallin H. Oaks reinforce why learning to recognize the influence of the Holy Ghost is becoming more important than ever.
Rather than providing a long scripted lesson, this guide gives leaders a simple path for helping youth develop a trustworthy pattern for seeking truth: turn to God, study carefully, use reliable sources, listen to prophets, seek the Holy Ghost, and remain humble enough to keep learning.
Inside this guide:
Two simple readiness activities
Brief teacher preparation and doctrinal background
Three study paths based on the Church’s weekly questions
Supporting scriptures and prophetic insights
Discovery, understanding, and application questions
A ready-to-use conversation guide
Journal/application ideas
Josh’s Teaching Tip
A Temple Connection
A simple weekly invitation
Additional teaching ideas
A supplemental teaching option
A one-page Teach This in 25 Minutes lesson path
Designed for: Young Men advisers, Young Women leaders, bishopric members, and others teaching the Church’s For the Strength of Youth curriculum.
Preparation is intentionally simple. A leader should be able to review the guide in about 15 minutes and feel prepared to lead a thoughtful 25-minute discussion without building a lesson from scratch.
The goal this week is simple: help youth understand that truth may sometimes be difficult to recognize, but it is never hidden from God—and Heavenly Father has given them the Holy Ghost, scriptures, prophets, revelation, and the ability to learn truth for themselves.
