Run From Temptation

The safest distance from sin is far away.

Joseph faced a serious temptation when Potiphar’s wife repeatedly tried to persuade him to commit sin. Joseph knew exactly what was at stake. He said:

“How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9)

Joseph understood that sin isn’t just about breaking rules—it damages our relationship with God.

So Joseph made wise choices. He avoided being alone with her. He refused to listen to her requests. And when she tried to force the situation, Joseph ran.

Literally.

Wisdom Is Avoiding the Situation

Joseph teaches an important principle: it is much easier to avoid temptation than to try to resist it when we’re already close to it.

Think about it like unhealthy food sitting on the kitchen counter. Even if you intend to eat healthy, the closer you stay to temptation, the harder it becomes to resist.

Reflection

The adversary often tries to convince us we are strong enough to stay close to temptation without giving in. But Joseph shows us that the wisest choice is to create distance.

“Thinking celestial will also help you obey the law of chastity.”
