Prepare to Meet God

Exodus 19–20; 24; 30–34 How preparation opens the door to God’s power

Sometimes we treat important things differently because we know they matter. If you were meeting someone you deeply admired, you would probably think about what to wear, what to say, and how to show respect. In Exodus 19, the Lord told the children of Israel to prepare themselves before meeting Him. They were told to sanctify themselves, wash their clothes, and be ready. This was not casual. God was teaching them that coming into His presence requires preparation.

That same principle matters for us. We may not stand at Mount Sinai, but we still have moments when we meet with God. We meet with Him in prayer. We meet with Him in scripture study. We meet with Him during the sacrament, at church, and in the temple. Those moments become more powerful when we prepare our hearts. The Lord wants to sanctify us. He wants us to come closer to Him. But that usually requires repentance, reverence, and a willingness to listen.

Sometimes the reason spiritual moments feel less powerful is not because God is absent, but because we have rushed in without preparing. A distracted prayer, careless scripture study, or half-hearted worship will usually feel different than coming with real intent. Preparation matters because it opens our hearts to the Spirit.

President Gordon B. Hinckley taught, “Preparation precedes power.”

That truth applies spiritually too. If you want more power in your relationship with God, start by preparing to meet Him.

Reflection
How could you better prepare to meet God in prayer, scripture study, church, or the temple?

Today’s Challenge
Choose one spiritual habit this week and approach it with more preparation. Put your phone away, slow down, and come ready to really meet with God.

Closing
God wants to be close to you. As you prepare your heart, repent, and seek Him more intentionally, you will find that He is ready to meet you there.
