Ep. 89 Enabling vs. Empowering

Enabling is helpful when we do for others what they can’t do for themselves. Enabling becomes destructive when we do for others what they can do for themselves.

Josh Downs

Enabling can be one of the most helpful and destructive things we can do for another person. In this episode I'll discuss how to know the difference between the kind of enabling that is helpful and empowering or the kind of enabling that is destructive and robs someone of the ability to do things themselves. One of the best examples, lesson and patterns I've ever seen of enabling in a healthy and unhealthy way, is found in the story of the Yellowstone Bears.
